This paper aims to analyze the style in the TV show Dexter following the methodological proposal of Butler (2010). The analysis utilizes descriptive stylistics to further develop an analytical stylistics (interpretation of purposes and functions of style within a televisual text). The corpus of analysis is the pilot episode of the aforementioned TV series. In addition, we discuss the phenomenon known as quality TV following the method of historical stylistic analysis from the same author. The results show that Dexter’s style and its insertion in the logics of quality TV point to the use of style in a way that not only help the narration of the stories, but is also used to strongly characterize the protagonist.
