Focus and Scope

Razón y Palabra is a scientific communication journal originally created within the academic research environment of Tecnológico de Monterrey, State of Mexico Campus. It is now published by the Observatorio de Comunicación (OdeCom) at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador, under the Editorial Razón y Palabra imprint. The journal is dedicated to the study of communicology and is directed by Professors Octavio Islas, Ph.D., and Fernando Gutiérrez, Ph.D., founders of the Internet Project at Tecnológico de Monterrey.

Published every four months, Razón y Palabra is a plural, inclusive, open, tolerant, non-profit digital space free from political or partisan interests. Its mission is to contribute to the generation of productive knowledge toward a possible communicology.

Razón y Palabra publishes on the following topics: politics and media, semiotics and communication, communication and technological convergence, journalism, media literacy, theories and methodologies of communication research, film and audiovisual media, intercultural communication, history of communication, among others.

This is a non-profit project: the journal does not pay authors, nor does it charge article processing or publication fees.

Double-Blind Peer Review Process

Articles that meet the submission requirements will be considered for review. In the first phase, submissions are evaluated by the Editor.

Following this initial screening, articles are sent for double-blind peer review by academic referees.

Members of the Editorial and Review Committees assess submissions based on the originality of the approach, methodological and scientific rigor, topical relevance, significance of contributions, and adherence to academic writing standards. The committees may also recommend an external reviewer depending on the article’s subject area.

The review process is confidential, and the outcome will be summarized in a report indicating one of the following decisions: acceptance, conditional acceptance, or rejection.

If conditionally accepted, the Editor will send the reviewer’s comments to the author for revision. The author may choose whether or not to make the suggested changes. Only fully accepted articles will be published.

In the event of a dispute, the journal may assign a new round of evaluation.
Authors are notified of acceptance or rejection through official communication.

The views expressed by authors do not necessarily reflect those of the editors.
