Cristina García Rodero: Hidden Spain

Abstract
The aim of this article is to gain in deeper knowledge of the first book published by Cristina García Rodero, “Hidden Spain”, given that this book collects the images that Cristina took since she started as a pho- tographer, in the early seventies until the end of the eighties. Over a period of more than fifteen years, she became a graphic reporter. Currently, she is a reference for the documentary photographic re- port and was the first Spanish photographer who, in 2009, became a full member of the international photographic agency, Magnum. We would like to exhibit her capacity to go against the tide, shown firstly, by the election of the subject, popular and traditional festivi- ties and, secondly, by the selection of the documentary photographic report as a narrative form. In addition, we will attempt to show that her training as a painter, at the School of Fine Arts at the University of Madrid, can be appreciated in some of her images. Finally, we will try to demonstrate that many of the important technical characteristics that distinguish her work can already be appreciated throughout the study of this huge project.
