Reflections of the andean indigenous identity in the narrative video clip of andean music: case Otavalo – Ecuador

Abstract

The audiovisual productions of indigenous peoples focus on documentaries and cinema, thus reflections and analyzes are concentrated in both areas. However, audiovisual productions in other formats such as: soap operas, parodies, interviews and video clips are not of interest to researchers. In this framework, the music video clip is selected as a format that grew in the last decade and that different groups in society take advantage of to tell their stories and their own representations of reality. This is the case of indigenous Andean music, which through the production of the music video see on digital platforms the spaces to host and disseminate the Andean song, promote the musical band and represent the cultural identity. For that reason, the objective of this article is to analyze the relationship of the three basic components of the narrative structure in the music video of the indigenous artistic groups of the city of Otavalo in Ecuador. The methodology for the analysis starts from a narrative approach and the characters, events, transformations and environments will be analyzed. The conclusions will contribute to know what are the characteristics, strengths and weaknesses in the structuring of the indigenous Andean music video.
