Abstract
Older actors usually complain because there are hardly any movie roles for them. This statement, which comes from a subjectivity, deserves to be analyzed with data that support it or not. This research analyses, through content analysis, 30 Spanish films released in 2018 and 2019 and a total of 468 characters. Through descriptive statistics it is concluded that the representation of characters over 65 years is scarce and not representative of Spanish society. There is a greater presence of elderly men than women. In addition, these characters usually have secondary or background roles, with hardly any narrative weight. The study was completed with a qualitative discourse analysis of the leading elderly characters.
